Privacy Policy

Last revised [3/24/2021]

This Privacy Policy explains how the Monroe County Democratic Party (the “MCDP”, “we” or “us”) collects, uses, and discloses information about you when you access or use our websites and other online services that link to this Privacy Policy (collectively, “Services”), or otherwise interact with us.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make any changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by revising the “Last Revised” date at the top of this Privacy Policy and, in some cases, we may provide you with additional notice (such as by adding a statement to our website homepage or by sending you a notification). We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy whenever you access or use the Services or otherwise interact with us to make sure that you stay informed about our information practices and the choices available to you.

WHAT INFORMATION DO WE COLLECT?

INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE TO US:

We collect information you provide directly to us. For example, we collect information when you make a donation, make a purchase, participate in any interactive areas or features of the Services, sign up to receive email updates or other notifications (such as text message alerts), use assistance tools available through the Services, fill out a form, apply for a job or an internship, participate in a survey, contest or other promotion, communicate with us via third-party social media sites, or otherwise communicate with us. The types of information we may collect include your name, email address, postal address, phone number, and any other information you choose to provide.

In addition, note that the State of Michigan and certain other state and federal agencies may require us to collect and publicly report certain information from donors. The State of Michigan requires us to collect (and disclose) the name, mailing address, occupation, and employer of certain individuals that make donations. We use third party payment processors to collect information and process transactions.  We do not directly collect or store credit card information or other types of electronic payment processing information.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT AUTOMATICALLY:

In partnership with third parties, we use various technologies to learn how visitors are using our Services, improve our Services, and customize your experience. This may include sending cookies (small data files) to your computer or mobile device. We may also collect information using “web beacons” or “tracking pixels” — electronic images that may be used in our websites or emails that deliver cookies, count visits, understand campaign effectiveness and determine whether an email has been opened and acted upon. Additionally, we collect various logging information used by web servers such as IP, time, requested page, device information, location, and similar information. These technologies are used to improve our web experience and email broadcasting program as well as our advertising and promotion programs.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT FROM OTHER SOURCES:

We may obtain information from other sources and combine it with information we collect through the Services. For example, if you sign up to host or volunteer for an event associated with the MCDP via a third-party website, such as MobilizeAmerica, we will obtain certain information about you from the third party that operates that website.

HOW DO WE USE THE INFORMATION YOU PROVIDE?

We will use your contact information to provide you news and information about our efforts. We may also use location information to send you messages about upcoming events or activities in your area.

We will pair your information with publicly available data about voter registration and private information related to issue stances and voting preferences to promote events, candidates, or other information we feel may be important.

We may use the information that you provide online to contact you for other purposes or to solicit contributions. We may share your contact information with other organizations that share similar goals and objectives, and they may contact or solicit you.

INFORMATION ON CHILDREN:

We do not knowingly contact or collect personal information from children under 13. Our site is not intended to solicit information of any kind from children under 13, and we have designed our sites to block our knowing acceptance of information from children under 13 whenever age-related information is requested.

INFORMATION SHARED IN CONNECTION WITH ONLINE PETITIONS:

When you sign an online petition, you understand that such petition is public information and that we may make the petition, including your name, city, state, and any comments you provided in connection therewith, publicly available. In addition, we may provide such petitions or compilations thereof to national, state, or local leaders or to the press.

INFORMATION SHARED WITH THIRD PARTIES:

We may share information about you as follows or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy:

  • with vendors, consultants, and other service providers or volunteers who are engaged by or working with us and who need access to such information to carry out work or to perform services on our behalf;

  • with candidates, organizations, groups, or causes that we believe have similar political viewpoints, principles, or objectives;

  • to report required information to the United States Federal Elections Commission, United States Internal Revenue Service, and certain state agencies;

  • when you give us your consent to do so, including when we notify you on the Services that the information you provide will be shared in a particular manner and you provide such information;

  • when we believe in good faith that we are lawfully authorized or required to do so or that doing so is reasonably necessary or appropriate to comply with applicable laws or legal processes or to respond to lawful requests, claims, or legal authorities, including responding to lawful subpoenas, warrants, or court orders; and

  • when we believe in good faith that doing so is reasonably necessary or appropriate to respond to claims or to protect the rights, property, or safety of the MCDP, our users, our employees, our volunteers, copyright owners, third parties or the public, including to protect such parties from fraudulent, abusive, inappropriate, or unlawful activity or use of the Services.

We also may share aggregated or de-identified information with third parties that cannot reasonably be used by such third parties to identify you.
