      Monroe County Democratic Party Treasurer

I am Mary Etta O’Brien-Kreklau.  I currently live on Stony Point Peninsula on the shores of Lake Erie.  I grew up primarily in what is now Westland but spent most summers on our family farm in the Upper Peninsula near Pickford, MI.

I am a graduate of Madonna University in Livonia, as well as a Wayne County retiree and City of Westland retiree.

My work in the public sector allowed me to retire at an age that I could enjoy activities with my five (5) grandchildren; do some traveling with my husband, Charles, and now become a pro-active Grandma!

I now have time to work on various campaigns such as being a Monroe County Team Captain for Voters’ Not Politicians; the Executive Board of the County of Wayne retirees’ union, AFSCME Subchapter 38; a member and officer of the Monroe County Progressive Democrats; and a member of MCPAN (Monroe County Positive Action Network).   I have also served on our homeowners’ association board as treasurer or secretary for over ten years.

In my spare time, I also sing with the River Raisin Sweet Adeline Chorus – which I need to keep my sanity!  I have been a member of the Executive Committee of the Monroe County Democratic Party for a number of years, a Precinct Delegate for (4) years and the Treasurer of the MCDP party since May 2018.

Between my regular activities and attending volleyball games of the granddaughter, traveling to Indiana to visit our grandsons, carrying signs and demonstrating for the rights of women and environmental issues (I keep signs in my car trunk always), I can be found at live theater productions, concerts, or the Detroit Institute of Arts.

I have been forced to become what every politician needs to fear – a fearless grandmother fighting for the future of this country and a quality of life for her grandchildren!
